Say on shopping strip spruce-up

DANDENONG West traders, residents, teachers and students will be given a say on how to spruce up a shopping strip in Hemmings Street.
Co-Design Studio – on behalf of Greater Dandenong Council – will run its One Small Change workshop to garner feedback from the community on Friday.
It will directly approach businesses, talk with students at Dandenong West Primary School and conduct vox pop interviews in the main street.
Last June, locals told the Journal there was a need for more security cameras, rubbish clean ups, a crackdown on drug dealers and aggressive beggars, and a post office.
Greater Dandenong councillor Matthew Kirwan pushed for the radical “community co-design” process last year.
“This is more than just normal community consultation, where the council will conduct a survey and go off with the feedback and design something quite different to what people wanted.
“Community co-design is really working together to design what the shopping strip should be,” Cr Kirwan said at the time.
