Police call for police in schools

By CAMERON LUCADOU-WELLS

GREATER Dandenong Council is lobbying for the return of the ‘Police in Schools Involvement Program.
On 9 December, the council agreed to write to police chief commissioner Ken Lay, Police Minister Kim Wells and local MPs to reinstate the program which was axed in 2005.
Councillor Roz Blades, who initiated the motion, stated the program provided an “important informal environment for children to foster strong positive rapport” with police members.
She said it was an “early-intervention” intiative tackling crime at the grass-roots level.
Casey Council had earlier written to the council, urging it to support the program’s reinstatement.
