Grass fire closes road

By CAMERON LUCADOU-WELLS

FIRE crews are fighting a grass fire which has shrouded a busy Dandenong North road junction in smoke.
A CFA spokeswoman said nine tankers were deployed to put out the fire, which started in roadside mulch on Eastlink near the south-bound Monash Freeway exit ramps about 4.15pm.
She expected it would take about an hour to extinguish the threat.
A fire helicopter had been called but was not required, she said.
VicRoads has sent an alert that south-bound exit lanes from Eastlink onto the freeway have been closed and has advised drivers to seek an alternative route.
