NEW bins are on their way to Greater Dandenong streets – and the smaller the bin, the lower the cost.
The council last week launched the Great Bin Swap campaign, designed to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
Residents will receive an information pack in coming weeks and be able to choose from six bin options, to be rolled out from July.
They’ll have until 31 March to choose their new waste, recycling and garden bins.
City of Greater Dandenong is asking residents to think about what bin size would best suit their needs and will educate them on ways to improve their recycling.
The smaller the bin size residents select, the lower the cost.
Greater Dandenong mayor Jim Memeti said landfill was a serious problem for the nation.
“Over the years we have become much better at recycling but we have a long way to go,” he said.
“Our population and waste is growing and it is time for all of us to look at ways we can improve the way we recycle.”
