Thousands expected at Lions festival

BURDEN Park in Springvale South will be filled with festivities this weekend – and all for a good cause.
The Lions Club of Noble Park-Keysborough runs an annual three-day community festival to raise money for its work to help the needy in the local area and the Athol Road Primary School.
Festival committee chairman Ashley Lewis said the total funds raised varied with the weather, but $15,000 was the average.
Springvale Police Senior Sergeant Alan Dew said officers would patrol the festival.
He encouraged festival-goers to behave responsibly, take care when leaving the premises and cross the road at crossings.
Sen Sgt Dew expected a few thousand people would attend across the weekend.
“It’s a very worthwhile event,” he said.
“It’s good to see the community enjoying themselves.”
The Lions Club Community Festival will be held at Burden Park, corner Heatherton and Springvale roads, Springvale South, from 5pm to 11pm this Friday, 11am to 11pm Saturday and 11am to 4pm Sunday.
