Grant has industry covered

A DANDENONG manufacturer has an extra $250,000 to grow.
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MPs Gordon Rich-Phillips and Inga Peulich announced the Investing in Manufacturing Technology (IMT) grant for Polyem last Monday.
The company will put the cash toward buying and installing $1.2 million in state-of-the-art, multi-layer blown film technology from Germany.
“It is very encouraging to see local companies such as Polyem taking a proactive approach to growing their business by seeking to invest in the future,” Mr Rich-Phillips said.
Mrs Peulich said the grant would allow Polyem to provide anti-rust films for the automotive industry, high impact films for the poultry industry, high clarity film for the mailing industry and perfect profile films for the lamination industry.
“Importantly, this significant upgrade will enable the company to create up to three new jobs and will enable many of its client companies to open up new export markets,” she said.
Manufacturing Minister David Hodgett said the State Government had approved grants totalling $14.3 million to 82 businesses under its IMT program.
“Manufacturing is still one of Victoria’s most important industries – contributing $27 billion to our economy last financial year and employing nearly 300,000 people – 10 per cent of our overall workforce,” he said.
