Snap sparkling selfies

DANDENONG’S newest public space, the civic square at the new Dandenong Civic Centre, is the hub of Christmas fun and frivolity this year.
The square has been decked out for Christmas with impressive new decorations, including a nine-metre high Santa atop one of his reindeer.
Featuring hundreds of warm LED lights and dressed with a coat of crystal and sequin drops, the North Pole’s most famous resident will be lighting up the night for all the local girls and boys.
The giant reindeer’s not camera shy and no visit to see it would be complete without posing for a selfie.
Strike a pose at the official selfie spot, and share the Christmas joy on Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #reindeerselfie.
The council will share the photographs on its social media sites and those who take part may see their face on the big screen!
The Civic Centre’s window display features a traditional Nativity scene displaying the birth of Jesus while the neighbouring Drum Theatre will be bursting with baubles and stars.
Key shopping precincts in Dandenong, Springvale and Noble Park’s major retail areas have been adorned with the colours of the festive season – green, red and gold.
Decorations featuring Christmas trees, presents and traditional doves of peace will be displayed to help celebrate Christmas and promote local shopping areas.
In addition, musicians and entertainers will be roving the streets throughout the month – watch out for Christmas Gizmo on his unicycle, Tubby the Christmas Robot performing his favourite Christmas songs, a cheeky elf bringing balloon creations to life, and more.
On the big screen there will be details of the council’s daily events and activities program as well as a very special Christmas message from local retailers, many of whom will also be getting into the spirit of the season by participating in a festive window display competition.
See www.greaterdandenong.com/events for all the details.
