Pride in the park

DANDENONG Park welcomed up to 15,000 people to Australia Day celebrations last Monday.
“I’ve never, ever seen that many people in Dandenong Park before,” councillor Jim Memeti said.
“The fireworks were fantastic at the end.”
Some attendees clutched both Australian and Aboriginal flags as they enjoyed the Australiana-themed festivities on 26 January.
Aunty Di Kerr congratulated City of Greater Dandenong for the event at Tuesday night’s council meeting before delivering the evening’s prayer.
“It grows bigger and better every year,” she said.
Ms Kerr said the festivities fostered reconciliation and allowed people to “come together as many faiths without any fear of harm”.
Cr Meng Tak attended an Australia Day citizenship ceremony for 50 new Aussies at the Drum Theatre.
“One day they will be able to serve Australia in whatever capacity they choose, because Australia is the city of opportunity,” he said.
