“WATCH out Dandenong – hold onto your hats because it’s going to be great next year.”
Committee for Dandenong’s Jill Walsh has plans to bring back and expand April’s Dandenong on Wheels event.
She’s dubbed it the Dandenong and South East Manufacturing Super Event and is scouting for international coverage.
“We really need to put Dandenong on the map and send a message that manufacturing is alive and well,” she said.
Ms Walsh said the day would be held during Manufacturing Week in May and would coincide with a super trade mission from abroad.
“In Manufacturing Week, Dandenong will stop for the best of reasons,” she said.
The inaugural event stopped traffic around Dandenong Civic Square on 17 April, a tram, train, buses, trucks, caravans and more surrounding proud workers, students and visitors.
Ms Walsh wants next year’s showcase to involve niche and large manufactures and to highlight what jobs are available in the sector.
She’ll hold a cocktail event on stage at the Drum Theatre in Dandenong on 10 November to raise funds for event planning.
