Grass fire spreading

UPDATE 5.48pm

CFA has issued a downgraded ‘watch-and-act’ warning for residents near a Bangholme grass fire.

It states fire fighters have halted the spread of the fire towards Pillars Road properties.

Due to the total fire ban tomorrow, fire crews are expected to continue extinguishing the blaze overnight.

It warns that expected strong northerly winds could reignite the fire tomorrow.

 

UPDATE 5.38pm

The Bangholme grass fire’s status has been revised up to ‘not yet under control’ by the CFA.

Eighteen CFA trucks are at the scene between Pillars and Riverend roads.

A grass fire in Bangholme has been brought under control, CFA has advised.

A ‘watch-and-act’ warning remains active for the surrounding area.

FIRE-fighting aircraft have been called to help subdue a slow-moving grass and scrub fire that is moving towards properties at Pillars Road, Bangholme.

A ‘watch-and-act’ warning has been issued by CFA over the 2.5 hectare fire, which started at Riverend Road.

The fire is moving in a north-easterly direction and is not yet under control, the CFA warning states.

It warns Keysborough, Waterways, Bangholme and Aspendale residents that the fire is subject to swirling wind and could impact Pillars Road properties at any time.

Spot fires and ember attacks are starting up to 100 metres ahead of the main fire.

A FOUR acre grass fire is burning in a Bangholme paddock.
A CFA spokeswoman said crews received a call to the slow-moving blaze on Pillars Road about 3.50pm today (Tuesday 24 November).
She said there were seven trucks at the scene and that accessing the fire was difficult, but there was no danger to property.
The CFA has issued an advice warning for Bangholme, Chelsea Heights, Waterways, Aspendale Gardens and Chelsea.
It said smoke would be visible from nearby communities and roads, and that another update was expected at 6.30pm.
