Backpack mugging assault

Four young thugs tried to steal a man’s backpack in Noble Park.
The 34-year-old was walking along Kelvinside Road about 10.30pm on Tuesday 18 July when the group approached and tried to grab his bag.
Police said they assaulted the victim using a bottle and another unknown object, causing injuries to his head and body that required treatment at Dandenong Hospital.
Greater Dandenong CIU Detective Senior Constable Christine Johnstone said a passer-by in a car slowed to see what was happening “which was enough to scare them off”.
Call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 with any information.
