Police on patrol in Springvale arrested a man after allegedly spotting a car with false plates.
They were in the Sandown entertainment complex car park on Monday 24 July when they found the vehicle.
While they were inspecting it, a man walked out of the complex, saw the officers and tried to walk in the opposite direction.
Police chased him and arrested him. They allegedly found the keys to the vehicle in his possession.
They also determined that the car was stolen from Thornbury earlier in July.
Police charged the man with several offences. He is due to attend court in September.
