Clean up crews have been called in to safely remove asbestos and the charred remnants of two Dandenong shops that were engulfed by flames on 12 September.
The two shops and surrounding areas along Lonsdale Street in Dandenong have been cordoned off to pedestrians, with yellow ticker tape warning people of asbestos in the area.
A crew of three men in white protective suits, masks and googles were seen assessing the damage on a cheery picker on Wednesday.
The two shops, S.K Gift Shop and Supreme Enterprise grocers, suffered millions of dollars damage when fire broke out around 1.30am.
It took CFA crews 90 minutes to bring the flames under control.
A CFA spokeswoman told the Dandenong Journal that the fire has not been deemed as suspicious.
Shops around the area are still open for business.
