Dandenong students are getting active again this April after leading the state last year.
Emerson School signed up all students to the Premier’s Active April program, committing them to getting 30 minutes of exercise each day during the month.
Emerson School had the highest number of high school participants in the program last year.
One student won a major prize, four tickets to the Medallion Club at Etihad Stadium to watch an AFL match between the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne Demons.
This year the physical education department has again registered all students, and the school is welcoming members of the Emerson community to join in.
Premier’s Active April is now in its 10th year.
More than 50 per cent of Victorian adults fail to meet the recommended levels of physical activity, and 80 per cent of children don’t exercise enough.
This year’s campaign is encouraging Victorians of all ages and abilities to register and call on their pets as a fun and easy way to increase physical activity levels.
A new personalised My Local feature on the website will help participants to find activities, events and offers within their community.
All participants receive prizes just for registering, including 10 free passes to participating YMCA centres and other local facilities, discounts at Sportsmart to help with the cost of getting the right equipment, one hour free tennis court hire at Melbourne Park or Albert Reserve, two-for-one tickets to the Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium, a chance to win more prizes like tickets to next year’s Australian Open Tennis finals.
Visit activeapril.vic.gov.au to sign up or follow the campaign on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Registrations are open until 30 April.
