Students at St Gerard’s Primary School are learning in new classrooms.
Victorian Senator Mitch Fifield, representing Education and Training Minister Simon Birmingham, officially opened the spaces on Thursday 22 February.
The Federal Government’s Capital Grants Programme provided $2.6 million towards the project, and the Dandenong North school’s community chipped in $255,000.
The works removed a classroom block, replaced it with five flexible learning areas, and renovated six small classrooms.
They are now three flexible learning spaces that open into a communal learning and gathering space.
School principal Chris O’Connell and St Gerard’s Parish Priest Father Brendan Arthur showed Mr Fifield the new spaces, and students from Indian and South Sudanese backgrounds performed.
“It was great to visit St Gerard’s School and see the new facilities first-hand and the impact they will have on students’ learning potential,” Mr Fifield said.
“These new learning spaces take into account the latest in education research and will see students learn more effectively.”
Mr Birmingham said: “While buildings alone do not make a great school, I hope students and staff will enjoy learning and be inspired by these new facilities.”
