John Dowling is still hitting the gym at age 94.
He’s been a regular at Dandenong Oasis for more than 20 years and said he rarely missed a session.
“I started off in the water then, once I retired, I joined the gym,” he said.
“I had lifted weights in the past and had a physical job so I realised I had to keep strong and active.
“I come in three times a week and stick to my routine.
“I did use the pool and sauna but feel the gym is more beneficial for me.
“The pool is good to help with the aches and pains and the occasional stiffness.”
Mr Dowling doesn’t take any medication puts his good health down to keeping active.
“I come to the gym three times a week, play bowls once or twice and darts on a Monday night,” he said.
“It keeps me busy.
“I have also been told that I eat like a horse – good quality food and plenty of it.
“My goals are to keep healthy, keep off the meds and be able to keep bowling.
“I will keep coming to Oasis for as long as I can.”
Dandenong Oasis manager Trudy Micallef said John was a popular person around the centre and an outstanding example to others.
“If anyone is looking to be inspired we just point them towards John,” she said.
“He is proof of how regular exercise can lead to better health and happiness, regardless of age.”
