Building wells of compassion

Students at Mt Hira College have dug in to help provide fresh water in the trouble-struck country Myanmar.

On 16 July, students presented $2400 to go towards six wells provided by charity Human Appeal Australia.

In the past, the college has funded seven wells in Bangladesh. It also sponsors an orphan through HAA.

A school spokesperson said Myanmar was chosen due to the displacement and ethnic cleansing of the Rohingyan population.

Since August 2017, almost 650,000 had sought refuge in Bangladesh, with many infants and young children suffering acute malnutrition.

The spokesperson said charity was important to the Islamic college.

“We have been given hearts to feel compassion towards others but it is both our hearts and minds that shape us into good human beings.”
