CFA have witnessed 5 males running from the vicinity of a fire lit on the Dandenong Creek Trail after being called to the location at approximately 7.20pm on 1 December.

A short time later the brigade received a call to a second fire lit at Noreen Cox Reserve, approximately 1km away from the first fire. The CFA determined petroleum was used as accelerant to set alight a picnic table at the reserve and no further damage occurred.

Police are suspicious of the five males running away considering the two fires were lit within a close proximity to each other.

Purposely lit fires have the potential to cause widespread damage to local homes and wildlife and are particularly dangerous coming into summer.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Greater Dandenong CIU on 9767 7487, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.vic.gov.au
