Six arrested after south-east drugs raids

By James Taylor

POLICE arrested six people and seized more than 1500 cannabis plants in raids across the south-east this morning.

Warrants were simultaneously executed at 7.20am at 12 residential properties in Dandenong, Springvale, Carrum Downs, Clarinda and Mulgrave.

The plants have an estimated street value of $3.7 million.

A significant amount of product and equipment believed to be used in the cultivation of the plants have also been seized.

A 42-year-old Mulgrave woman and a 72-year-old Noble Park man are assisting police with their enquiries.

Constable First Class Kane Taylor said the raids followed an investigation led by the Dandenong Tasking Unit into the suspected cultivation and distribution of cannabis in Greater Dandenong.

“To seize such a large quantity of cannabis plants and equipment used in the cultivation process is pleasing because it means fewer drugs on our streets.

“This operation has put a huge dent in the growing of cannabis in the south eastern suburbs and has prevented a large quantity of cannabis from entering our community.”
