VIDEO footage is being investigated today by Federation Football Victoria in its hunt for the culprits who launched flares — including rocket-propelled devices — at the weekend’s Victorian Premier League grand final at AAMI Park.
FFV spokesman Gordon Irving said the FFV and stadium managers would view CCTV footage of six flares fired from among a group of Dandenong Thunder supporters at the Sunday premiership match.
‘‘We would hope the club would help us to identify the people responsible.’’
Mr Irving reiterated the Thunder would have to face an independent tribunal over the incidents.
Yesterday, Dandenong Thunder treasurer Ronnie Mustafai said the club would co-operate with the FFV in finding the people who fired the flares, but did not take responsibility for the incident.
‘‘The major problem is AAMI Park security and how the flares got in.’’
Today, Mr Irving responded: ‘‘There may be questions [with security] but there’s still an issue there with the club’s supporters.
‘‘There was an A-League game beforehand. Security was normal for an A-League fixture.’’
Mr Irving said the Thunder and its opponents Oakleigh Cannons were informed last week that ‘‘they were expected to follow the rules’’.
‘‘It will be up to the tribunal to decide [if they are not responsible for the incidents].
‘‘In tribunal cases, the club may be penalised for failing to control their supporters or club affiliates.’’
