Two die in ''devastating'' motorbike-truck crash in Dingley Village

By Cameron Lucadou-Wells

POLICE are investigating speed as a possible factor in a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and truck in Dingley Village this morning.

Senior Sergeant Simon Humphrey said it appeared a motorcyclist and pillion passenger were travelling on the bike west in a 40 km/h construction zone in Westall Road about 7.45.

The purple motorbike crashed directly into the side of the truck, which was turning right into Rowan Road.

As police cleared the wreckage, its front wheel appeared to have separated from the mangled bike.

‘‘We’re still speaking to witnesses. There has been a suggestion that speed has been involved,’’ Senior Sergeant Humphrey said.

‘‘It’s a devastating scene. You never get used to these sort of things.’’

Major Collision Unit police officers are investigating the crash, including speaking to the ‘‘very shaken-up’’ truck driver.

The deceased, who were both wearing helmets, have yet to be identified, Senior Sergeant Humphrey said.

‘‘We just want all motorists to take care, to slow down. We know motorcyclists are over-represented in the road toll.’’

Police have advised motorists to avoid the area. Westall Road is closed to inbound traffic.

Any information to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
