Keysborough charity bowls day has a new name

BOWLERS will converge on Keysborough Bowls Club for a good cause on March 24.

The annual Rotary Club of Noble Park charity bowls day has raised more than $186,000 for local charities since its inception in 1987.

The event has been given a facelift in its 27th year with a new name and the dates pushed back to attract more bowlers.

The format has also been changed to a lightning two-bowl open triples event with four games of nine ends, and teams can be three ladies, three men or mixed.

The event is organised by the Rotary Club of Noble Park in conjunction with a committee of lawn bowls clubs and Highway Bowls Centre’sRoy Aspinall.

Originally the mayoral charity bowls day, the name was changed to the Dandenong and District Charity Bowls Day when the council removed its support.

The committee is urging bowlers to get entries in quickly because the event is capped at 32 teams.

The cost is $30 per team and forms are available from all City of Greater Dandenong bowls clubs, the rotary club of Noble Park or at Highway Bowls Centre.

The winning team receives $300 and runners-up $150 for the team, with $45 for each game winner.

The perpetual Wal Turner Shield is presented to the victors.
