Nail bombs detonated during Springvale South search

TWO hand-made bombs were discovered by police in a Springvale South unit after a ‘‘routine’’ vehicle intercept last Saturday.

Detective Senior Constable Alistair Boyd, of Greater Dandenong CIU, said police searched a Springvale South home after a small amount of methamphetamine — or ‘ice’ — were found in the intercepted car on Dandenong Bypass about 2am.

One of the bombs contained nails and had the potential to cause a ‘‘significant injury’’, Detective Boyd said. The other emitted smoke.

The police’s bomb response unit detonated the bombs in the home’s backyard.

Police say cannabis, ‘ice’ and cash were also discovered at the home. A 31-year-old Springvale South man was charged with possessing explosive devices, conduct endangering people, and trafficking and possession of drugs.
