Anzac Day dawn service: Free bus ride extended to Dandenong

A FREE return bus service will take Greater Dandenong residents to the Anzac Day dawn service at the Shrine of Remembrance.

The Ventura service, funded by the state government, will travel from Dandenong with pick ups at Noble Park and Springvale.

Last year, Greater Dandenong Council funded a similar Anzac Day commute for its residents.

Greater Dandenong mayor Angela Long welcomed the move after the council lobbied for the state government to extend its service to Greater Dandenong.

“I encourage anyone who would like to use the free buses to attend the dawn service to ring up and book early,” Cr Long said.

“I wouldn’t want anyone to miss out because they didn’t book.”

Buses arrive at the Shrine by 5.40am for the 6am service, and depart 7.30am to take passengers home.

Bookings close on April 22. Call Ventura Charter, 9575 4823, between 9am-4pm, Monday- Friday.

Anzac Day services will be held at Springvale and Noble Park this Sunday.

In Springvale, a march will start from the corner of Union Grove and Springvale Road at 10am. The paraders will march to the cenotaph at Springvale Town Hall for a ceremony at 10.30am.

At the ceremony, there will be a catafalque party formed by a naval cadets unit, recitals by school students and hymns from the Springvale-based C3 church group.

In Noble Park, servicemen and their families will march from Mons Parade at 11am, followed by a service and refreshments at Noble Park RSL.

Dandenong RSL will hold its Anzac Day services at dawn and 10.30am on Thursday week.
