Springvale youth overlooked

SPRINGVALE youths are missing out on school holiday activities, councillor Sean O’Reilly told a City of Greater Dandenong council meeting.
The Lightwood Ward representative said the council’s Summer Vibes holiday program was skewed towards young people in Dandenong and neglected those in Springvale.
He asked the council to investigate and report back on how to rebalance the program to make it equally accessible.
The 30-event program includes one Keysborough event. The rest are in Noble Park or Dandenong or depart from the YStop in Dandenong. There are no Springvale or Springvale South events.
“Our kids shouldn’t have to always get on a train or bus to travel to these activities,” Cr O’Reilly said.
“It seems that council provides youth services mostly around Dandenong, and I have asked the director of community services to look into this.”
Community services director Mark Doubleday said he would investigate the issue and report back to the council.
