A DANDENONG woman is the victim of a possible racial attack in Melbourne’s CBD.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said a man punched a 21-year-old Muslim woman to the head on Swanston Street, near Latrobe Street, about 1.10pm on Thursday 29 October and fled the scene.
The punch caused the victim to fall to the ground and hit the left side of her head.
The spokeswoman said officers were investigating whether the incident was racially motivated.
“The Dandenong woman was checked by paramedics at the scene but was uninjured,” she said.
“It’s believed the victim and the offender are not known to each other.”
The attacker is described as Caucasian, 183 centimetres tall and about 45 years old with a slim build, short light-coloured hair, a beard and a tattoo on his upper right arm.
He was shirtless at the time of the incident.
Victoria Police are due to hold a press conference at 1pm.
