RETAIL giant Harvey Norman is set to build a Springvale outlet in a move that will increase its trade presence in Greater Dandenong.
Sources close to Star revealed a meeting took place between the retailer and Greater Dandenong council this week.
According to the sources, Harvey Norman’s current plan is to construct an outlet on the corner of Westall Road and Princes Highway, Springvale, opposite the Dulux factory – in a prime position to accept customer catchments from Greater Dandenong and the City of Monash.
The City of Greater Dandenong’s planning department this week confirmed it had received a planning application for the site and was preparing a report to go before council this month, but would not provide any further details.
Harvey Norman turned over more than $4 billion in sales revenue last financial year across its 200plus retail outlets across Australia and internationally.
It recently acquired Myer’s Megamart chain, and has a bedding, furniture and electrical retail outlet in Dandenong.
But the company’s chairman, Gerard Harvey, remained tightlipped about the Springvale expansion when Star contacted Harvey Norman headquarters.
Mr Harvey refused to confirm or deny that Springvale would host a Harvey Norman outlet, or provide details on what it would stock.
