REPORTS a third train track is set in concrete for the Dandenong line are a “beat up”, according to a local MP.
An article in a daily newspaper last week suggested the track had the ‘green light’ after $6 million worth of contracts were handed out to engineering companies.
The track has long been the focus of improving public transport in Greater Dandenong, and the major engineering feat of placing a third track means the project, if confirmed, may not be completed until 2011.
Confirmation was not expected until the release of the State Government’s transport livability document, scheduled for May.
Dandenong MP John Pandazopoulos this week said reports the train line was confirmed were incorrect, and the contracts were for consultation purposes.
“It is not set in concrete at the moment,” he said.
“But it is something the Government will have to do in the future.
“The contracts, as I understand, are part of the $25 million (for consultation and planning).
“There are some engineers who have been awarded contracts, so we can know if we need to widen the track, and where, and what are the realistic options.”
Third line rumour stopped in its tracks
