NEAR-MISS collisions at a Cheltenham Road intersection have prompted Keysborough residents and their councillor to lobby for a right-hand turn arrow signal.
Keysborough Ward councillor Roz Blades this week said the intersection of Chandler and Cheltenham Roads was not safe without a right-hand turn arrow.
Cr Blades said she had raised the matter several weeks ago in a bid to have the traffic signal installed for motorists turning right from Chandler Road and into Cheltenham Road.
“There’s no arrow, and the road is very lumpy, bumpy and humpy, and is in very poor condition,” she said.
“We have now got EastLink trucks using those roads, and residents fear extremely dangerous accidents will soon happen.”
Cr Blades said residents had constantly stopped her in the street or called her to complain about the intersection’s lack of traffic signals.
“It is a strong residential area off a main road, of course there are a lot more cars using it,” she said.
“And with the Keysborough South development happening, more people are turning right.”
Cr Blades is now hoping council officers can help to lobby VicRoads to install the signals before a serious injury or death occurs.
“We have got to take this seriously otherwise there will be a serious accident,” she said.
