Councillor for tribunal

A DANDENONG councillor will appear before a Football Federation Victoria (FFV) tribunal this week to give his account of a brawl last month between Dandenong Thunder and North Geelong Warriors.
Dandenong Ward councillor Jim Memeti confirmed he would face the tribunal today as a witness to the brawl that erupted at George Andrews Reserve on Saturday, 13 May.
Cr Memeti said he would simply ‘go and say what I saw’ at the evening match which was to be a celebration of Dandenong Thunder’s newly constructed lights.
The brawl was allegedly sparked when a player and spectator clashed on the boundary, and so far both clubs have denied starting the fight.
Dandenong Thunder president Penno Husein said in the week following the brawl that ‘baboons’ had sparked the brawl and that it threatened to reverse any positive image people had of the sport.
North Geelong head coach John Hrkac last week said the Dandenong home crowd had incited the violence, and denied any North Geelong players behaved aggressively.
