A DANDENONG fundraiser targeting a Russian orphanage was cancelled just days before the planned evening of fine food and entertainment.
Dandenong’s Russian Welfare Society was planning to raise funds for an orphanage in Kodkishov, Russia, at a special dinner last Sunday at the Russian Reception Centre.
Despite publicity and the ongoing commitment of organiser Leon Gubin, who frequently visits the orphanage to train the children how to use Siberian huskies as sled dogs, the fundraiser was called off.
Russian Welfare Society community development officer Janene Blanchfield-Brown said the evening was cancelled due to a lack of interest from the community.
“Mr Gubin has advised me that the proposed evening Sunday night at the Russian Reception Centre in Kirkham Road has been cancelled as he was not able to get enough numbers for the evening,” she said.
