SWEEPING changes will hit Dandenong Market’s parking spaces to allow the Aldi supermarket to open later this month.
Among the changes to be applied later this month is an increase to the maximum parking fee, capping certain areas to a one or two hour stay, while some remain three hours, and introducing seven day parking for 150 spaces near the supermarket.
According to a report by City of Greater Dandenong’s regulatory services manager, Peter Shelton, the maximum parking fee will increase from 40 cents to 60 cents to allow that sum to be divisible by three.
Customers will then pay 20 cents per hour they intend to stay at the market.
The report outlines that 150 spaces of the King Street car park nearest to Aldi will be available seven days a week for a maximum stay of two hours.
The top level of the multi-deck parking facility will be capped to two hour stays, while the middle and lower levels will remain maximum three hour stays.
Council research shows that in all parking areas, a majority of visitors stayed less than one hour at the market.
