Metal night comes to Dandenong

By Shaun Inguanzo
A HEAVY metal band is urging young people to flock to a new Dandenong club to satisfy their cravings for heavy genres of live music.
Dandenong is set to serve up an appetising solution for young people’s musical hunger, as Pulse Tavern prepares to host a special night catering for heavier styles of music including punk, metal and hardcore.
The feature band will be EFXR, which bass player Justin Gagalowicz describes as a metal-thrash band.
Gagalowicz said he and his band were urging young people from the cities of Casey and Greater Dandenong to rock up to Pulse on the first Thursday of each month for a night full of music, prizes and fun.
“A lot of people are interested in this music, the only thing is they don’t know about Pulse in Dandenong,” he said.
“They have a stigma about Dandenong’s safety, but they travel to the city.”
Gagalowicz said the evening would also provide opportunities for other bands to rise to the occasion.
“We are trying to give metal bands a go, the club has got heaps of security, it’s a new venue and it has the best staff. We know how good it is but everyone else doesn’t.”
Gagalowicz said there would be giveaways including CDs, T-shirts and other items, go-go dancers to entertain between bands, and a happy hour between 8.30pm and 9.30pm offering $2 pots and $3.50 spirits.
The first night will be Thursday, 7 December at Pulse Tavern, corner Walker and Thomas streets, Dandenong, starting at 8.30pm.
