DANDENONG hosted a Koori Back to School day of health checks, information services and fun activities last week.
The day was a joint effort by Greater Dandenong and City of Casey councils and the Dandenong Aborigines Cooperative, held at Dandenong’s The Castle youth facility.
City of Greater Dandenong Aboriginal officer Brian Powell said no child went home empty handed.
“Every child went home with a showbag of goodies including toothpaste, toothbrushes, lunch box, water bottle, pens, pencils and information on services that are available to them all,” he said.
“The door prizes included footballs, basketballs and a grand prize of a Sony PlayStation 2.
“From the feedback received, it was a very successful day and both parents and organisers thanked City of Greater Dandenong for its involvement and support.”
A total of 96 kids aged between five and 17 registered for the day, with 53 undergoing vision testing and 38 undergoing hearing tests.
Good health and goodies, too
