THE Victorian Architecture Awards shortlist includes three Dandenong projects.
They’re among 112 still in the running for Australian Institute of Architects honours from 240 entries.
The Revitalising Central Dandenong: Lonsdale Street Redevelopment is a contender for the Urban Design Award alongside five other projects, and is one of three contesting the Melbourne Prize.
The BKK/TCL project was conceived as a grand boulevard with a pedestrian focus and was part of the State Government’s Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative.
Among 13 projects in the running for the Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing award is the Wintringham Eunice Seddon Home and Wallara Accommodation.
The Allen Kong Architect building creates a peaceful and supporting environment for people living with an acquired brain injury.
The open-style planning encourages residents to have daily contact with the outdoors and control over their space.
Dandenong’s Precinct Energy Project is up for the Sustainable Architecture award.
The Peter Hogg and Toby Reed Architects creation is a prototype for a new commercial/industrial building type that aims to provoke discussion about the environment in a fun way.
It provides a focal point and new local icon for the regeneration of downtown Dandenong.
All entries will be exhibited at PIN UP Project Space in Collingwood from 29 May to 29 June.
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 21 June and will progress to the National Architecture Awards, announced on 1 November.
