VICTORIA Police has called in officers from its sexual offences and child abuse unit (SOCA) to crack down on parents taking young children to late-night street meets in Noble Park.
The move is part of Operation Hoyden, a police crackdown on the Elonera Road district of Noble Park in the wake of last month’s hoon rampage.
Springvale Chief Inspector Bob Graham said SOCA officers were concerned for children’s welfare at illegal drag racing meets.
“When parents bring their young children along to watch this illegal activity they are placing their lives in danger,” he said.
“Not only are these children being subjected to excessive noise and offensive language, but also possible debris from hoon cars.”
Meanwhile, more than 300 traffic offences have been detected as part of Operation Hoyden, Chief Insp Graham said, including 89 speeding motorists.
Among the worst offenders was a motorist detected driving at 175km/h in a 100km/h zone along the Monash Freeway, and another motorist caught driving at 154km/h on the Princes Highway, almost double the 80 kph speed limit.
Police are still looking for anyone with information on the people involved in the Saturday, 13 January riot in Noble Park, particularly those caught on surveillance footage in the Blockbuster video store.
Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Search continues for rioters
