GREATER Dandenong Council is placing artwork in the windows of vacant central Dandenong shops in a bid to spruce up the CBD.
The latest in the council’s Art in City Spaces project also includes a Dandenong Plaza window containing a painting of the Dandenong Ranges.
The council has hung two paintings in an empty window of a vacant shopfront directly opposite the Drum Theatre.
Contemporary artist Kate Weeks created the pieces of art.
Ms Weeks’ work depicts theatre masks, hence its location near the theatre, which attracts a plethora of performing arts fans.
Greater Dandenong mayor Youhorn Chea threw his support behind the Art in City Spaces project and said it would offer up-and-coming artists increased exposure of their work.
“Not only do these art works brighten empty shop windows in the city centre, they also provide a means to promote the arts to the broader community,” Cr Chea said.
“It also gives both emerging and established artists the opportunity to have their pieces on display to hundreds of pedestrians each day.”
