Surge but no cigar

BEACONSFIELD survived a last-quarter surge from Keysborough on Saturday to move back into the top five of Casey Cardinia football after a 17-point win at Rowley Allen Reserve.
The Eagles looked to be cruising at three-quarter time, with a 41-point lead, but they didn’t count on a spirited comeback from the Burra who closed to just 10 points with five minutes to play.
Keysborough has seen itself in some difficult circumstances in its last five rounds, but refuse to throw in the towel.
Wins against ROC and Tooradin came after trailing by 15 points at three-quarter time, while Saturday’s performance against the Eagles was reminiscent of a similar comeback against Doveton.
Coach Chris Bryan was the only player to kick more than one goal, booting four for the home side, while Danny Morland, Ryan Goodes, Geoff Humphreys and Glen Hawthorn continued their recent run of good form.
SFL – DIVISION 3
Dandenong 15.14 (104) brushed aside the vastly improved Lyndale 5.8 (38) – kicking out to an eight-goal-to-one lead in the first term before hitting autopilot for the rest of the match.
Chris Hatfield and David Mckean jagged three goals each while Levi Moss, Damien Busch and Dylan Bracebridge played excellently.
For the Pumas, Ordell Buntine continued a stellar season while Edward Faamausili, Adam Read and Shannon Deszcz could hold their heads up in the 66-point loss.
Endeavour Hills 9.12 (66) got the jump on 2012 runner-up Sandown 12.14 (86), taking a nine-point lead at quarter-time and holding their own in a 20-point loss that would’ve surprised all in the SFL.
The Cobras managed to squeeze the lead back at three-quarter-time and went on to win against the last-placed Falcons.
Shane Cosstick and Leigh Holroyd booted three apiece while Jason Toan and Matthew Menzies were best afield.

Masala 4.3 (27) couldn’t make back-to-back wins, downed by Eley Park Sharks 6.12 (48). The Tigers fought back in the second half, but couldn’t generate enough shots on goal. Sean Harrop, Michael Howells and Wayne McMahon were best afield.

Keysborough was downed by premiership contender Scoresby by 33 points and a season of woe got worse for Hallam, thumped by St John’s 48.19 (307) to 0.0 (0).
JOCs forward Michelle Densley bagged 20 goals in the win in the resounding win.
