TOUR the cultural delights of India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka without leaving central Dandenong.
The City of Greater Dandenong is offering a series of two-hour tours of central Dandenong’s Little India precinct, near Foster Street, over the coming months.
An experienced tour guide will take tourists on a journey to awaken their senses and reveal the city’s rich Indian culture through clothing, cosmetics, food, film and music.
The tour includes visits to unique and exotic shops, an introduction to the world of Bollywood film and music, Indian cuisine, authentic spices and ingredients, Punjab sweets and colourful sari fashions.
Participants will hear interesting tales of local traders and their journey from India to operating retail stores in Dandenong.
The subtle differences of Indian dress styles and culture will be revealed, along with insights into the traditions associated with wedding ceremonies.
The tour offers something for all ages and concludes with a meal in one of Little India’s many local restaurants.
Tours take two hours to complete and begin at 5.45pm for a 6pm start.
Little India Cultural Tours are part of a two-year program of projects in central Dandenong as part of the Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative. The program is a three-way partnership between the City of Greater Dandenong, VicUrban and the Dandenong Development Board.
Bookings are essential and can be made by phoning Nadine Curzon-Siggers on 9239 5134.
