Green wedge: Councillors reject call to resign

Well, at least they were given the opportunity. This is a much bigger issue than the Greater Dandenong councillors realise: about 650 residents came under attack from an unfounded council decision which would have produced, at the current selling price for industrial-zoned land, a windfall worth hundreds of millions of dollars for a couple of speculators.

That this decision was soundly rejected by an advisory committee of planners sends a clear message. That the Minister for Planning Matthew Guy found it necessary to say “This draws to a conclusion the government’s review of growth boundaries both in growth areas and non-growth areas” sends a message from the government about attacking landholders going about their business, and there are formal processes to investigate exactly what went on at the council meeting of November 24, 2011.

Re: Doveton mosque leader: ‘We are not doing anything wrong’

As a Christian, I would like to say the opinions of Catch the Fire Ministries and Danny Nahlia [sic] do not in any way represent mine. I would like to support Rokhan and his community in Doveton in any way that I can. Would love to know where people who support his plan to build can show their support.

Re: Candidate push for more Dandenong CCTV cameras

No one’s watching, so is anyone home? Yes, we have cameras to record footage but without someone watching the CCTV footage for the majority of the day, what is the point? If someone’s life is in danger, we need an immediate response. It’s too late, once a crime is committed, to have the footage of the incident when in fact we should have contacted the police to apprehend them immediately.
