A MENTAL Health Court for Dandenong would stop cases of mental illness from clogging up traditional legal avenues.
That was the argument mooted by Keysborough Ward councillor Roz Blades at Monday’s council meeting when she called for a Mental Health Court in Dandenong to accompany other specialty courts.
Cr Blades said she had discussed the idea with Eastern Regions Mental Health Association chief executive officer Peter Waters and the council’s Community Services director June Dugina.
Cr Blades told council the interested parties would now lobby Victorian Attorney General Rob Hulls to consider the Mental Health Court.
Cr Blades said the court would deal specifically with cases whose participants suffered mental illnesses.
