AS PROUD and committed publishers of true community newspapers, I am delighted to be able to see The Dandenong Journal revitalised into a strong and committed voice of the community this week.
The Journal is an iconic Dandenong brand and has served the community for 148 years.
Our company, Star News Group, has had a long association with The Journal over most of those years, having been neighbours and in more recent years fierce competitors.
Growing up, I remember my grandmother, Florrie, talking about their friendship with the Dicksons, owners of The Journal from the late ’30s until sold to Rupert Murdoch in 1961.
In a community that is being revitalised, we are proud to be also revitalising The Journal.
This week, Star News Group returns The Journal to a true tabloid size; we include weekend sport and bring back community news to the paper.
We hope you enjoy looking back at the strong history The Journal has provided to the area, being the paper of record for the region for 148 years and also the revitalised Journal with new sections, more sport and increased real estate.
Thankyou to everyone who has supported the paper over many years, and we hope you will continue to support The Journal and that we will be able to continue to deliver to our readers and supporters a true community newspaper, reflecting the views and aspirations of the Grater Dandenong community.
