Rangers let loose

DANDENONG has retained second place on the Big V Basketball Men’s championship ladder with a 33-point win against Eltham on Saturday.
The Wildcats had a promising start, entering the first break six points down.
But the Rangers let loose in the second and subsequent periods to enjoy a 111-78 victory.
Ranger Ash Cannan dominated the boards again, hitting 21 points and collecting 10 rebounds, while Mehmed Bektas had his best game of the season with 18 points and eight rebounds.
Brent Hobba was also important, scoring 14 points including three from down town.
John Lister was again the Wildcats’ top scorer with 20 points.
The Rangers will back up at Dandenong Stadium this weekend when they take on Warrnambool.
Dandenong’s Championship division women’s finals hopes took a dive when they lost 67-63 to Eltham on Sunday afternoon.
The Rangers were hoping to return home with a win, but a slow start cost them dearly with the scoreboard reading 20-11 at the first break.
The away side was able to edge to within three points at the final change but the Wildcats held on to record a four-point victory.
Martina Payne and Suzi Raymant caused headaches for the Rangers defence, hitting 18 and 17 points respectively.
Tarryn Ring was the best for Dandenong, netting 11 points and taking 13 rebounds.
The Rangers will find it tough to make the finals as Sunday’s loss leaves them three games behind the top four sides with three games remaining.
Dandenong will hit the road again this weekend to take on Coburg, which sits last on the Big V Women’s Championship ladder.
