SANDOWN slumped to last place on the Southern Football League (SFL) Division Three ladder after a 19-point loss to Cerberus at HMAS Cerberus on Saturday.
The Cobras matched it with the home side for the first half, trailing by just five points at the main break.
But Cerberus outran the visitors in the last half, slamming home five majors to three. Cerberus’ third win for the season was headed by a best on ground performance, including four goals, from Scott Williams.
Clint Sheedy kicked three for the Cobras to move his season tally to 41 while Adam Maling was again at his best.
The Cobras have a chance to move up the ladder next weekend when they host eighth-placed South Yarra.
South Yarra v Dandenong
SOUTH Yarra has delivered one of the upsets of the season, thumping a hapless Dandenong by 72 points on Saturday.
The home side finally managed to move off the bottom of the ladder after delivering a major blow to the fourth-placed Demons.
South Yarra was impressive in just its second win of the season, booting 19 goals to the Demons’ eight.
The game was all but sewn up at three-quarter time with the home team up by 35 points, however South Yarra continued to rampage in the final term slamming on eight majors.
The home side’s big win was spearheaded by Andrew Clyne, who was supported by Matthew Kelly and Lachlan McGregor.
The team had 10 individual goal kickers, Adam Neville leading the pack with five majors.
Benjamin O’Donnell and David Black were the only multiple goal kickers for the Demons finishing with three apiece.
Dandenong has the bye this weekend but has the chance to redeem itself when it takes on last-placed Sandown in round 12.
Mount Waverley v Doveton
MOUNT Waverley moved to second place on the SFL Division Three ladder after a win at home against a brave Doveton outfit on Saturday.
Mount Waverley burst out of the blocks kicking four majors to one in the first term, but the Eagles steadied to trail by a goal at half-time.
The third quarter was a battle with both teams booting three majors to see the Eagles down by seven points at the final change.
The home team proved too strong in the end, prevailing by nine points with the Eagles’ slow start proving costly.
Mount Waverley vice-captain Benjamin Price was again on song with a best on ground performance that included three goals.
Chris Jeffries was also impressive, snagging two majors.
Stephen Paynter booted three goals for the Eagles, who travel to Cerberus this Saturday.
