Killer Cougars claim honours

– JARROD POTTER

Big v Division 2 – round 8

BACK on the winners’ list, Keysborough knocked over a dogged Oakleigh to record its fifth win of the season.
The Cougars had to shake off the Warriors – led by import sensation Andrew Kaban (35 points, 6 rebounds) – but outworked Oakleigh in the crunch moments to take a 22-point win, 99-77.
A whopping 35-point third term, led by impeccable shooting from the field (72.2 per cent), three-point line (66.7) and free-throw line (83.3) kept the Keysborough initiative steaming ahead before a low-scoring final term let the Warriors bring some respectability back to the scoreline.
Eric Miraflores (28 points, 4 rebounds) had one of his best outings in the Keysborough colours – working in tandem with Jackson Houpt (21 points, 4 rebounds) and Kevin Benn (9 points, 11 rebounds). Adam Sliwinski (15 points) popped up for a three-point bonanza from only 24 minutes on court.
The third placed Cougars men head away to face Casey Cavaliers on Saturday night in a battle for second spot.
Meanwhile Keysborough’s women faced Chelsea Gulls at home on Sunday afternoon as the Journal went to press.
