Rolling out a young image

A SAFE sport that requires a strong mind and a steady hand, is highly competitive and yet has almost no injuries.
That’s lawn bowls.
Keysborough Bowls Club is this week trying to encourage younger residents and their parents to consider lawn bowls as a serious option for weekend and after-school sport when weighing up the more common options of football, soccer and basketball.
Publicity officer Ray Johnstone this week said the club would welcome junior bowlers with open arms to not only allow them to play what he considers one of the best sports in the world, but to meet new friends within the local community. “We are active in the promotion of young children into lawn bowls,” Mr Johnstone said.
“Keysborough Bowls Club offers free lessons without any obligations and coaching is by nationally qualified lawn bowls coaches.”
The club has a family bowls day at its Keysborough green at 356 Cheltenham Road, on Sunday 28 October between 10am and 12.30pm for parents and children – and even older budding bowlers – to give the sport a shot.
Any inquiries can be directed to Ray Johnstone 9798 2917.
