A NEW police operation will target thefts from cars in Greater Dandenong.
Detective Sergeant Shane Pola said the pro-active covert and overt patrols would target areas where there’d been an increase in the crime.
“Members from Operations Response Unit (ORU) in town are coming out and we’re having a pro-active high-visibility police presence in those areas,” he said.
“The aim is to deter and to catch.”
Det Sgt Pola said the police would work in and around shopping centres and railway stations, on deterrence and apprehension.
“We’ll respond where there’s been indications that there’s activity,” he said.
“It’s to get the message out to keep valuables out of sight.”
He urged motorists to ensure their cars were secure, and anyone who saw suspicious behaviour around vehicles to call police or Crime Stoppers.
