Volunteering thanks

MORE than 240 volunteers from day clubs around Victoria congregated in Springvale last week to enjoy a hard-earned day of thanks for their efforts.
A total of 34 day clubs are run around Victoria under the auspice of the Department of Veteran Affairs, and are often run out of local RSL clubs.
Their purpose is to provide ex-service people and their families, as well as the wider community, a social outlet to prevent them from becoming isolated.
Dandenong and Noble Park clubs – the Whirlybirds and Red Gum Club – were host day clubs for the gathering last Friday at Springvale City Hall.
Dandenong Whirlybirds volunteer Marj Smith said the day was one of entertainment and relaxation to say thank you to the volunteers who help run day clubs.
A lunch followed by some entertainment and an exchange of gifts between the clubs were the highlights of the day, as well as guest speakers on mental health and aged care.
