FLOWERS will line Lonsdale Street this month as part of Christmas decorations by the City of Greater Dandenong council.
The red and white flowers will mark the beginning of the festive and shopping seasons in a bid to attract people to the city’s retail outlets.
Outgoing mayor Youhorn Chea said the floral display would help enhance the streets and make Dandenong a pedestrian friendly city.
“We’re approaching the busiest time of the year for our retailers and we want to support businesses as much as possible. One is by making Dandenong a colourful place to shop.”
Cr Chea said the council was using recycled water to care for the flowers.
Floral displays are now a regular event in Dandenong thanks to a funding partnership between Council and VicUrban.
They are among the many projects being rolled out under the Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative.
Other projects include art installations in laneways, cultural tours of Little India and the Afghan Bazaar, new pedestrian signage, and incentives to traders offering alfresco dining.
The floral Christmas display will be on show until early January.
