The Force is with TET to strenghten ties

POLICE will join more than 30,000 people to help celebrate the Vietnamese New Year at Sandown Racecourse this weekend.
For the first time, Victoria Police will be manning a marquee at the three day TET Festival, one of the biggest cultural celebrations in Victoria.
The festival, held between 8 and 10 February, promotes Vietnamese culture and arts through various displays, live entertainment, music, food stalls, fashion parades and fireworks.
Sergeant Michael Ferdinand said Victoria Police were pleased to be a part of the event, which was a great opportunity to strengthen ties between police and the multicultural community.
“We will be handing out promotional material, such as stickers, posters and colouring books, and reinforcing the aims of Victoria Police’s new The Way Ahead 2008-13 strategic plan, which seeks to connect the community and foster stronger relations,” Sgt Ferdinand said.
“Victoria Police is continually striving to provide the best possible police service to all members of the community, regardless of culture, faith, gender or background and the TET Festival is another positive step forward in further connecting with our community.
“Our police marquee will also be a great opportunity for anyone with general policing questions to come and have a chat with their local police,” he said.
Acting Assistant Commissioner Region 5 Emmett Dunne will attend the official ceremony on Saturday.
The festival, organised by the Vietnamese Community in Australia Victorian Chapter, will run from 5pm to midnight on the Friday and 10am to midnight on the Saturday and Sunday.
